It will be a day in which A day will come when children will play to peace they will not know of no war. A day will come when the men will look for a humble star. A day will come when the world it will no longer have deserts of only flowery meadows populated. A day will come when men will be better. A day of faith will come Antonio Calabrese |
Self-taught. He has always been passionate about painting and has strongly sought the means to express himself in it. He was born in Nardň, in the province of Lecce in 1947. He graduated as a school teacher at the Istituto Magistrale. He later taught in elementary schools. In 2004 he began to paint, seeking a dialogue with a wider audience. Since then he has been oriented towards a surreal, finding ways to externalize what he needed to communicate. His research, in the initial phase, was oriented towards the observation and the representation of landscapes flooded with light in a dimension close to the surreal and to metaphysics. He then continued to explore fairy-tale and unreal realities, full of colors and images taken from the world of fairy tales. Using the elements present in the fairy tale, he tried to tell feelings and emotions. He tried to present positive contents: the beautiful, the good, the uncontaminated by the hostilities that live incessantly and inevitably poses to the human species. He has participated in some collective and personal events and exhibitions: Collective: "GALLERIA D' ARTE MENTANA" Firenze - October - 2010. "FIRST INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL CITY OF LECCE" – 2010. Collective: “GALLERIA STOMEO “ in Martano - April 2011. Participation in the event: “SALENTOSILENTE”- July 2011. Collective: “MUSEO FAGGIANO” in Lecce - Dicember - 2011. Dr. Giovanna Barozzi says about him.
Reality mitigated by fable, knowledge and feeling
latent, naturalistic themes and magical fantastic themes:
it is the metaphor of life already typical of the classical world
made of alternating illusions longing for happiness.
In observing the works of Antonio Calabrese we are captured
from an immediate sense of childish joy that pervades us,
it's like running into a merry-go-round carousel ... We must not ignore
the idea of structured and composite background that permeates
all the "framework" project, nothing is occasional and
"vacuous", everything stems from reflection and from
awareness of the sublimated reality is meticulously organized
in the planning of the work. Before
I have written above "knowledge and feeling" now I add
"ethics and morality" of a life sought and chosen in freedom
of Art, because they are the places of the Soul that become
reality in the contamination between fantastic worlds and concrete worlds
where color accompanies us poetically elsewhere ...
The luxuriant polychrome that suggest the eye that touches
Antonio's paintings Calabrese could make one think of an art - as is usual
say - "naif", but if the term came semantically
considered (*) would be reductive and improper towards
of this artist. And in fact through reminiscences of
a feeling that has gone through metaphysics,
abstractionism, surrealism or impressionism, which
Calabrese offers us an expressionist style that from
a structural system elaborates thought patterns
through apparently simple forms using
of a skilful palette of colors and, believes in the recovery of those
values of the "beautiful" and "good" of an ancient philosophy
of life. His desire is of a better world for man. |
